Introducing Lumos Nyxel – Our Safest, Smartest, and Best-Looking Helmet Yet

Hey Lumos community!

It has been over 4 long years since we've launched a new integrated helmet, so I'm super excited to be able to share this with you. Everyone, meet the newest helmet from Lumos - Nyxel. Nyxel combines safety, style, and smart technology like never before. Stick around until the end of this article to find out how YOU can help shape Nyxel and even stand a chance to win one for free!

Beautiful, Sleek Design

With Nyxel, we set out to create a helmet that’s not only stunning to look at, but also incredibly effective in keeping you protected. We wanted something elegant and modern, with clean lines and a minimalist feel that still packs all the high-tech features we know you’ve come to expect from us. Every curve, every surface was carefully considered. We didn’t want any unnecessary bulk—everything has a purpose. From the smooth integration of the lights to the way the helmet sits perfectly on your head. Our goal was to create a helmet that you’d feel good wearing. Not just because it keeps you safe (which it does, incredibly well), but because you feel good every time you put it on. But Nyxel is more than just good looks. I’ll be diving into some of the smart technology we’ve packed into this beauty, from integrated lighting to signals, all designed to keep you safe and visible wherever you ride.

Elegantly integrated lighting

You already know that visibility is at the heart of everything we do at Lumos. From day one, we’ve integrated front and back lights and turn signals into our helmets to ensure that riders are as safe and visible as possible. With Nyxel, we’ve refined and improved the light integration even more, by blending it seamlessly into the brim of the helmet, enabling us to integrate our lighting without disrupting Nyxel's clean design. When the lights are off, you'd barely know that they are there. But when they're on, you can't miss it.

These lights don’t just look good—they make sure you’re seen from every angle. By following the curve of the helmetthe front and back lights naturally offer full 360 degree visibility.

Turn Signals – An Improved Classic

And then, of course, there are turn signals. We know you love them!

Using the same intuitive system, you can activate left and right turn signals with just a tap, allowing you to signal your direction clearly to everyone around you. Whether you’re commuting through busy city streets or taking a casual weekend ride, these signals give you the confidence to move safely and predictably through traffic.

And thanks to the nature of Nyxel's design, Nyxel is able to provide turn signals on both the back AND the front of the helmet, ensuring that everyone behind as well as on-coming traffic knows your intentions.

Unique Artwork & Colors

If you were with us for our Kickstarter campaign for our Ultra helmet, you might remember a little thing called "Hues-Day Tuesday". A weekly contest where backers of the campaign got to vote on which new colors Ultra would be made in production.

With Nyxel, we really wanted to do something special for our loyal backers. We know that many of YOU (yes, YOU!!) have followed us over the years to support us in our product launches.

So for this new launch, we saw an opportunity to take Hues-Day Tuesday to a whole new level. We worked with a few really talented artists, and made a bunch of really special custom and unique designs.

Note: These designs are not finalized yet.

Each design was custom made for Nyxel. These limited-edition designs will ONLY be available to backers of our launch, making them a true collector’s item. Once they’re gone, they won’t be coming back, so this is your chance to own a truly unique piece of Lumos history.

We'll also be doing a "regular" Hues-Day Tuesday, featuring colors that range from sleek, minimalist shades to bold, attention-grabbing hues.

Only a few of these designs and colors can be made however! Which ones? YOU will decide! Check out the full range of designs and let us know which ones you like!

More feature unveilings coming up!

There are even more exciting "firsts" that we're doing with Nyxel that we've been working on behind the scenes. For now, let's just saw that it is not just a "first" for Lumos, but a first for the industry as well.

I'll be writing more blog posts in the coming weeks as we march Nyxel towards launch (launch date to be unveiled soon!)

Wrapping Up

Now that you’ve had a glimpse of what Nyxel is all about, we’d love to get your input.

Not sure I’ll give up my kickstarter helmet and its functions. I have ridden more than 10,000 miles this year and most of the miles soon after midnight. Tell me why the new helmet would benefit me.

My concern with this helmet design is that it looks to be exclusive to a winter-only product. I say that because of the lack of ventilation.

Hi, a choice of having Bluetooth for some music etc and not having it so two different prices

1) The helmet should of course meet the NTA 8776 spec if it’s to sell to e-bike riders.

2) It would be wonderful If the battery was removable and replaceable. Then you could sell extra batteries separately and folks could buy a second battery and eliminate any downtime charging the helmet. They could also carry the spare battery on their rides to ensure lights on. And YOU could make more money😉…assuming that demand for the/additional/spare batteries is adequate.

3) Is the Nyxel adequately ventilated?

One more vote for a XL variant of the helmet.

for consideration: have you noticed in cars when the headlights and indicators are very close together the indicators are invisible when the lights are on. some makers combine day running lights and indicators to get the necessary distance from main headlights and turn off the running light on the indicating side when indicating for best visibility.

Don’t forget people with larger heads XXL AND FIDLOCK USA RETROFIT FOR THOSE OF US WHO HAVE OLDER HELMETS

Please tell me this means there’s a new Matrix style helmet on the way? Something with customizable LEDs and such? Please. Pretty please?

Helmet looks great, does it have MIPS and have you come up with a way to make the batteries last longer when you use the break lights feature? When I use that feature my batteries die in a hour.

I second CEPangolin’s comment.

I would like to see a real brim to keep sun out of eyes as well. An even bigger one than what’s available on the Ultra, which barely makes a difference.

please do an XL version – too many helmets discriminate against those of us with a good sized head!

Looks really interesting. Like the urban style. My concern with my two Lumos helmets is weight. The first was too heavy and I gave up on it. The Second was much better on weight, but still heavy. I still use in the winter, but this looks better for the winter.

this is awesome! I will be patient to see the other features. I am hopeful for the Bluetooth connection on this as well for music/calls etc

Kira October 02, 2024

Love the idea, but put a small lip between the light and the eyes. You can clearly see the light going into the riders eyes. I ride home at 11pm and lights in my eyes is so annoying. You’re just repeating the problem with the first helmet all over again. Also would love you guys to get artwork from the community as well for the helmets.
