Nyxel Part 2: Innovating Cycling Safety with Smart Crash Detection and More

Hey Lumos community!

Wow. The response from our last blog post and survey has been nothing short of incredible! It’s clear that so many of you are as excited about Nyxel as we are.

One question that we've been getting: What's new with Nyxel? Is there anything new that Lumos is offering in this helmet that we've not done before?

Absolutely.

Safety is at the core of everything we do at Lumos.

With Nyxel we're doing something really big in safety that we've never done before. This will make Nyxel the safest, smartest helmet that we've ever made.

Quin x Lumos: Crash Detection Done Right

At Lumos, we’ve always been interested in adding crash detection as part of our system. But we never found anything that truly met our expectations as to how such a system should work - Until now.

With Quin, we finally found the partner we were looking for. We're excited to announce that we're working with them to integrate their Advanced Motion Intelligence into Lumos, and offer a crash detection system that is a serious step above all other attempts at it.

Smart Crash Detection - Not your average bump detector

What makes Quin superior to all other crash detection systems is powerful sensor technology that can accurately measure motion and forces in 3 dimensions, 1,000 times per second. From there, Quin's propriatary algorithms (that they call Advanced Motion Intelligence), analyzes and categorizes each impact event to ensure help is only called when needed, and provids a detailed record and analysis of each impact after the fact.

Automatic Emergency Response

What happens in the event of a crash?

Via your cell connection, in the event of a crash, your emergency contacts will be automatically alerted to the event and your location.  If you prefer to entrust your safety to professionals, Quin can also directly alert the closest emergency services to come to your aid via the enhanced Quin Plus service.

Impact Analysis - See where, and how you were impacted, and share that data with your healthcare provider

In addition to detecting the crash, Quin also provides you with advanced crash analytics that enables you to see where your helmet was impacted, as well as the intensity, duration, and location of the hit.

Rich and powerful data that empowers you (and potentially your healthcare provider too!) to understand the nature of any head trauma you may have received.

Quin gives you that data, making aftercare easier and more informed.

Quin x Lumos: Fully, Beautifully, and Seamlessly Integrated

As a maker and designer of smart helmets with safety at our core, we've been able to work with the Quin team to integrate their technology into our helmets in a way that they have never been able to do with any other helmet before.

This collaboration represents a major leap forward in cycling safety. Quin's technology, with its precision crash detection and intelligent response systems, perfectly complements our vision for a helmet that is safer than ever before.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about Quin! Please take a moment to fill out our quick survey and let us know what you think:

Supplying data to the medial care Provider sounds like a good setup, I would like to hear from a doctor though how helpful they consider it to be.

How much more treatments supporting information do they get from this compared to scratchers on the helmet and a rough description from the cyclist/bystanders?

Very much interested to hear more insights!

The LED strip design at the front Edge of helmet may be prone to damage if bump or drop on hard surfaces, other than the magnetic visor, is there rim/lid protection to prevent damage to the LED strip and also serve as purpose to block out LED lights shine on your face and eyes

Looks amazing, could you place provide detachable ear padding (as with ski and snowboard helmets) so that it can also be used in colder climates during winter? Looking forward to it!
